Agia Fotia in Sitia is an area of great archaeological interest because except from the various chance finds and signs of habitation in the cave of Koufoto on the coast area, in 1971 at a place known as Patima near the cave discovered a big necropolis with 252 graves of the early minoan period.

It is one of the largest cemetery of the Minoan Crete. The graves consist of an antechamber and a main chamber, but also there are simple tombs which probably contained children or people of young age.

The finds were many and rich. Approximately found 1800 vessels of various types in excellent condition. An extremely interesting collection of bronze objects such as fish hooks, daggers, spearheads etc, was also found. Also noteworthy stone artifacts such as axes and querns discovered.
