The Archaeological Museum of Sitia opened the gates for the public in 1984, one hundred years after the first official excavations that took place in the area from the Italian Archaeological School.

The greater and wealthier findings become from the palace of Kato Zakros. Some of them are masterpieces of Minoan art.

The exhibition is divided into four sections. The separation is done by boards that provide to the visitors all the required information.

The exhibitions cover a period about 4,000 years, from the Late Neolithic to the Late Roman Period. In the center of the lobby of the museum exposed the famous statuette of the Minoan city of Palekastro that is made of gold and ivory. It is a masterpiece of the art of the Minoans and considers the most popular exhibit of the museum.

The findings from the palace of Kato Zakros and the surrounding area exposed in the second section. There you can see giant jars, decorated pots and utensils, miniature carvings and a jar with colored decoration.

A wonderful set of signs written in  Linear A script are located in showcase 16.

Findings that come mainly from the the Archaic Sitia exposed in the third section. In showcase 22 you can see statuettes and relief plaques from the archaic temple that was found in the town of Sitia.

In the fourth section there are exhibits from the Hellenistic and Greco-Roman times, from Ziros, Xirokambos, Trypitos, Makry Gialo, Koufonissi etc.
